World War 2 Names on Buxton Memorials

The town’s main, ‘official’ War Memorial, stands on a hill – known locally as ‘The Slopes‘ overlooking the town centre and The Crescent.

On the rear side of the Memorial’s supporting plinth is a bronze plaque bearing the names of 132 men and 1 woman from the town who gave their lives in the Second World War.

In the last 10 years two additional smaller plaques have been added commemorating four local men who have perished in conflicts since World War 2.

The Memorial also contains the names of 315 men and 1 woman who gave their lives in World War 1, listed on three bronze plaques.

In addition, as well as The Slopes Memorial, the former outlying villages – now suburbs – have their own Memorials, often as separate structures and/or included in the Parish Churches, plus Memorials at workplaces, schools and in streets.

For a full list of these Memorials – go to the “War Memorials of Buxton” page.

Some names on these Memorials are not included on The Slopes Memorial, but have been added to the Alphabetical Lists, outlined below.

For ease of reference those named on the World War 2 (“1939 – 1945”) Memorial Panels have been divided into FIVE sections, alphabetically:

By  CLICKING the link above, or the links on the MENU BAR at the top of this page you will access an alphabetical list of those in each group. From that list you can go to the personal page for each person named.
